Crop Conditions – Facts for Fancy Fruit

Crop Conditions

Apples look good and are sizing well.
Brambles are not having a great year. Winter injury was severe and the wet spring has led to a significant amount of Raspberry (Septoria) leaf spot.
Grapes are doing okay, despite significant winter injury. Appropriate pruning resulted in full crops of most varieties. Japanese beetles and 2,4-D damage are evident.
Pawpaws have good fruit set but we are seeing severe decline in health in our planting. Some trees are dying and at this point we don’t know the cause. There’s also been quite a bit of wind damage this year.
Strawberries in our planting look terrible. They have low vigor and very little runner development. Time for replacement with a variety that is resistant to leaf diseases.
